Reed Hastings is a businessman and he is the CEO of Netflix, he is also the Chairman of Netflix as well. Reed Hastings has accumulated a net worth of 6.26 billion dollars as of 2021. Reed Hastings was born in Boston on October 8th, 1960. He has an educated family and was somebody who grew up in a very stable family. His father was an attorney and his mother was a debutante. Reed Hastings attended Buckingham Brown & Nichols School. He also had a job around this time and he was going door to door selling vacuums. He was doing this job in his gap year before going to College. He went to Bowdoin College and he eventually graduated, he had a degree in Bachelor of Arts. Reed Hastings joined the marine cops after he graduated from his college. After his little experience, he went to teach maths to students in Africa between the years of 1983 to 1985. After his experiences in Africa, he went to Stanford University and he graduated with a Master’s degree in Computer Science.


Netflix was founded in 1997 and was co-founded with Reed Hastings and Marc Rudolph. One of the more influential moments in Netflix’s history was bizarre but made a lot of sense. When going to the gym he realized that the gym charged you a standard fee to work out as much or as little as you like. Reed Hastings wanted to apply the same logic to Netflix. Netflix is a company that is known for the movies on the site however for a long time they weren’t doing this and they were using DVDs instead. However, due to their declining DVD sales, they had to have a change of plan. The company kept on growing and the company was able to provide 12,000 movies and TV series by the time 2009 reached. In the next few years, the growth of Netflix continued and by 2012 they had up to 27 million streaming customers within America. In April 2013 they had reached 36 million subscribers worldwide. Despite this impressive growth over the years, Netflix knew it needs to expand its popularity across the world. Reed Hastings has now developed Netflix into a position where they are now the go-to place if you want to entertaining TV series and Movies.

Reed Hastings in the past has mentioned that he is a huge fan of youtube and sees the platform as a remarkable service, His expertise is not only on Netflix he has been the director of Facebook since 2011. Reed Hastings currently lives in California and is currently married to Patricia Ann Quinn and he has two children. Reed Hastings has done many good things regarding charity and donated 1 million dollars to the Beacon education network so they could set up some new charter schools.
