Brief History

When you are walking the streets, it is almost certain that you will see a ford car, they have grown in such popularity since 1903 and they are one of the most popular cars in the world. The growth of ford is largely down to one man who has made this company known throughout the entire world. His name is Henry Ford, who was a successful businessman and the founder of the ford company. Henry Ford was an incredibly demanding and innovative person who helped revolutionise the auto-trading industry. Henry Ford is someone everyone should look to if they want to build a successful business.

His Beginnings

Henry Ford was born on July 30th,1863 in Michigan. He had four siblings and he was the parents of Belgian immigrants. It wasn’t easy for Henry Ford, as he had to deal with the loss of his mother in 1876, as a result of this he was required to take over the farm. Henry Ford was a curious child and started playing around with a watch that his father gave to him. He would rearrange the parts and play with them. Henry Ford certainly learned his trade as he was an apprentice machinist for both F. Flower & Bros and Detroit Dry Dock Co. As Henry Ford’s career progressed he started showing some early potential. He was able to make things like a steam wagon and tractor. He also built a car that was powered with a two-cylinder four-horsepower motor.

The Pinnacle of His Career

Henry Ford founded the ford company in 1903, he was the founder along with 11 investors. Henry Ford would go on to have a long and successful career. He helped revolutionize his industry. One of the things that Henry Ford did which completely surprised people, was to increase the pay of his works to $5 per hour which was more than double the average salary at that point in time. This resulted in the Ford company attracting the best workers within the industry. One of his most influential cars was the Model T. The Model T ended up selling around 15 and a half million cars in the United States. This car came out in 1908 and had a steering wheel on the left which was unusual for the time and resulted in lots of cars copying. The car is not only easy to drive but it was cheap and could be repaired easily. The price of this car was $360. Henry Ford was not only influential in terms of building cars, but he helped build aircraft in World War 1 and 2. Despite being against helping to participate in the first world war he was able to produce tracks and aircraft. In the second world war, he would build war material for Nazi Germany and would continue doing business with the British as well.

Personal Life and Death

Henry Ford was married to Clara Bryant Ford, they got married in 1888. They only had one child called Edsel ford. Some people who are well known like to hide their political opinions and views however Henry Ford was a republican before he changed to the democratic party in 1918. An interesting fact about Henry Ford was that he was one of the first people to tell people about the unhealthy effects of smoking. Smoking at the time wasn’t something that people looked down upon. The end of Henry Ford’s life saw a deterioration of his mental health. The death of his son in 1943 saw Henry Ford’s mental health decline. Also around this time his company was losing around 10 million dollars a month and there were talks of the government taking over the company, this was because US president Franklin Roosevelt wanted to use the company for a sustained war effort. Henry Ford died on April 7th, 1947 due to his decline in health.
