Brief History and Early Beginnings

Daymond John is a businessman, investor and he is the founder and also the CEO of the company FUBU( For US, By US). He has a net worth of 300 billion dollars. Daymond John was born in New York City on February 23th of 1969. As someone who was born in the poorer parts of New York, he didn’t always have things his own way and struggled a lot. At the early age of 10, he was forced to work when his parents got divorced. His job at the time was to hand out flyers to people. He did attend a programme that allowed him to go to school on alternate weeks as he had work. After he graduated from school he took another job as a waiter he mixed that in with a commuter van service that he started during that time. Daymond John credits all the hard work he experienced as a young child as the reason why he was creative and maintains a good work ethic.


He started his company FUBU and received a lot of help from his mother. FUBU is a company that sells things as sportswear, shoes and general casual wear. His mother taught him the ability to sew and allowed Daymond John to use her house to produce the material for his company. He would sell hats for $10 and even made $800 in one day. It was clear that the company was starting to progress greatly and his mother even mortgaged the house so he could general a start-up capital. He eventually started sewing his logo on to hockey shirts. To promote his business further he got a local friend who was also a rapper called LL Cool J to wear one of his products during a promotional event. As a result of his mother’s hard work as well as Daymond John, they have earned up to $6 billion dollars in global sales.

Shark Tank

Daymond John appears on Shark Tank which is like the American version of Dragon’s den. The series encourages people to go onto the show and show off their ideas to Daymond John and the other businessman and women. If they are successful then they could get funding for their ideas. The show has been on since 2009. Many companies apply for this show and it is estimated that around 40,000 companies apply to be on the show however only 88 of them will be successful. The show has now been expanded into other companies with the likes of Vietnam, Israel, and Australia.

Personal Life

Due to all of his success, Daymond John has become a public speaker and has been sharing his advice for people who are trying to make their way in life. Daymond John is the CEO of the company the shark group which is a consulting firm. He has appeared in a lot of TV series, some of which include the likes of The Game, The Real, What Would You Do? Sharknado 2: The Second One, To Tell the Truth, The $100,000 Pyramid, Dr. Ken, All About the Washingtons and Billions. A man of many talents he has also written books and was even a New York best-selling author. The four books he has written are called ‘The Brand Within,’ ‘Display of Power,’ ‘Rise and Grind,’ and ‘The Power of Broke.’ Daymond John has said that there are two books that he would consider his favorite and they are Rich Dad Poor Dad and Think and Grow Rich. In 2017, Daymond John was diagnosed with stage two thyroid cancer, however, he was able to remove the nodule that was causing his cancer, meaning he is now cancer-free. He got married for the first time in his mid-20s however his devotion to his businesses led to a divorce. He married a second time Heather Taras. He has two daughters Destiny John and Yasmin John.
